Tremendous A-level Results at NGHS!

18 August 2022

Congratulations to Year 13 - An OUTSTANDING set of results!

Newport Girls’ High School Class of 2022 have surpassed the last formal examination results of 2019 by over 10% with an outstanding 81% of results graded A*-B and 54% A*-A. This is a tremendous achievement given the national Covid disruption experienced during students’ sixth form studies and testament to the hard work of them and their teachers.

The year group achieved a 100% pass rate across the board with many individual subject successes:

  • 40% of a large cohort of students taking Psychology achieved A*
  • Every result in Politics, Geography, Art and DT was in the range A*-B
  • Two thirds of Mathematics results were A*/A
  • Art & DT students only achieved A*/A grades
  • Almost 90% of History, Religious Studies and English Literature results were A*-B
  • In Physics, 65% of students achieved A*-A
  • Every student taking our enrichment AS PE course achieved an A grade (the top grade possible)
  • .... the list goes on!

A particular highlight was our compulsory Extended Project Qualification (which includes a university-style dissertation) where half of the grades awarded were A* and 98% were A*-B.

Particular congratulations are offered to a third of the cohort who achieved only A* and A grades in every subject as well as those who made improvements on their mock grades and those who overcame difficult personal circumstances to achieve so highly.

Five students achieved straight A*s in all their A-levels plus EPQ. This puts them in the top 1% in the country.  Particular congratulations to: Abigail Billingham, Jiaqi Ding, Gabrielle Farge, Sophie Lloyd and Lillian Salt. Many others achieved three A*s and one A grade.

Mr Scott, Headteacher, commented ‘Today’s results show the resilience and determination of our class of 2022 to achieve top grades and we are thrilled to share in their success. Thanks to their hard work, grit and resolve, NGHS students have truly bucked the national trend of girls not always achieving as highly in Physics and Maths as well as everyone continuing to achieve fantastic results in languages, humanities and practical subjects. We have not seen the nationally feared dip in results this year and are thrilled for all of our students and their families. We wish all our Year 13s every success in their future lives and look forward to our Year 14 reunion at Christmas’.

NGHS is an outstanding girls’ school and our students have achieved exceptionally high A*-B and A*-A grades. Applications for the Sixth Form in 2023 are already being taken. Please visit our Sixth Form section of the website for more information.
