Sudden/Severe Weather Closure

The Headteacher and Governors strive to ensure that NGHS is open each school day. However, on occasions, a decision is taken to close the School owing to poor weather or utility issue such as loss of power, water etc.. In the event of poor weather, this decision is often taken in consultation with other local schools (Burton Borough School and Haberdashers’ Adams) as school transport is shared.

In the event that bad weather occurs overnight and travel into school is likely to be heavily disrupted, an URGENT NOTICE will be placed on the school’s homepage (www.nghs.org.uk) no later than 7.15am informing parents and students of the closure. The information will also be conveyed to Telford & Wrekin Local Authority. Students and their families should keep checking the website throughout the day for updates.

If bad weather occurs during the day and coach companies request an early finish to ensure the safe transportation of pupils home, the Headteacher or his appointed Deputy may make a decision to close the school early. In this instance, pupils will be brought together and allowed to make a phone call home. The website will be updated, however, no pupil will leave school without parental permission and staff will remain at NGHS until all pupils are collected. It is very important that contact details are updated for this eventuality.

Closing the school is often the last resort as we appreciate the inconvenience that can be caused. However, the safety of students and staff is of paramount importance.
