The Senior Leadership Team is a very committed team of colleagues who work together and with the governing body to lead the school's ongoing development.
As well as a core of five (Headteacher, Deputy Head, Assistant Head, Associate Assistant Head and Operations Manager), the Governors and Headteacher strive to offer opportunities for middle leaders to join the SLT for twelve months as a developmental opportunity and this is reflected in our annually advertised Associate Senior Leader posts.
The SLT and Governors are supported and challenged by Dr A Bruton, a recently-retired and very successful former Head of another outstanding Girls' Grammar School who is our School Improvement & Support Partner.

Mr M J Scott
Mr Michael Scott was appointed to NGHS in July 2017 following eight successful years on the senior leadership team of two other girls' grammar schools. A graduate in German and Music, Mr Scott has taught for almost twenty years in four outstanding schools as well as at the renowned Schloss Hagerhof Music Academy in Germany.
As Executive Headteacher, Mr Scott is responsible for the strategic oversight and all that happens at NGHS and he leads a family of almost 900 students and 70 staff. His vision is to ensure academic and co-curricular success (in and outside the classroom) through high-quality teaching, outstanding results and, above all, exceptional pastoral care.
Mr Scott is particularly proud of leading the school through two outstanding Ofsted inspections as well as maintaining our place as the top-performing school in the local area and wider region.
Outside of school (in what little time remains!) Mr Scott is a keen musician and has directed music for over fifty productions and concerts.
Miss S Webster
Head of School
Miss Sophie Webster joined NGHS in September 2021 as Deputy Headteacher after a long tenure at a large multi-academy trust in Birmingham where she held a number of roles culminating in the post of Assistant Headteacher. She has recently been promoted to the post of Head of School.
As Head of School, Miss Webster's main role is to oversee the pastoral care and behaviour of students as well as leading the development of Teaching & Learning with Mr Pointon and ensuring students in all years have plenty of opportunities for Personal Development.
As a teacher of Geography and PSHE, Miss Webster looks forward to getting to know all our students in and outside the classroom. She is also an examiner for Geography with OCR and enjoys travelling and yoga.
Mrs H R Birch
Mrs Hayley Birch is currently on maternity leave.
Prior to leaving NGHS for twelve months, Mrs Birch was our Designated Safeguarding Lead across the whole school and oversaw the pastoral care of students in Years 7-10. Mrs Birch also led on PSHE, a subject which is considered vital at NGHS. An enthusiastic teacher of PE, Mrs Birch juggled her SLT responsibilities with fixtures, training and matches. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Birch back to NGHS in 2024.
Mr O Pointon
Acting Assistant Head
Mr Oliver Pointon joined NGHS in September 2018 as Teacher of Psychology and RE. In 2020, he was appointed to the new role of Sixth Form Achievement Coordinator, where he supported groups of students to improve their attainment and progress in Years 12-13. This role widened as a result of our Sixth Form expansion and Mr Pointon's keen eye for data earned him the role of Assistant Head during Mrs Birch's maternity leave. In this role, he focuses on leading Teaching & Learning, whole-school use of data and assessment and our House ethos.
Miss A-M Davies
Associate Assistant Head
Miss Ann-Marie Davies is one of the school's longest serving colleagues and joined SLT officially in September 2018. She leads on the progress of students for whom the school receives additional funding as well as the GCSE options progress and is Chair of our Head of Faculty group, where she leads and supports middle leaders to communicate the vision and evaluate the content of their curriculum area. A keen historian, Miss Davies teaches History throughout the school and specialises in the Early Modern Period at A-level.
Miss Davies has recently taken over responsibility for the school's IT Strategy and works closely with the Network Manager to ensure the school continues to embrace new technologies.
Mrs K Jones
Having joined NGHS from the Civil Service about 12 years ago, Mrs Kathy Jones has held a number of responsibilities, culminating in her appointment to the senior leadership team at NGHS in 2020. Her keen interest in Data, Health & Safety and her eye for detail mean she is well-placed to manage day-to-day operations in school as well as ensuring important H&S documentation is up to date. Mrs Jones is our Educational Visits Coordinator, is responsible for School Admissions and liaises regularly with prospective parents and the local authority. She also coordinates our Entrance Test and oversees our dedicated team of Support Staff.
