A-level Results 2020

13 August 2020

Newport Girls’ High School is delighted to announce another year of outstanding A-level results with over 80% of students achieving Grades A*-B in a raft of academic subjects. The students in this Year 13 cohort have, like so many others been affected by the Covid-19 lockdown, rapid school closure and algorithmically-determined grades. Mr Michael Scott, Headteacher paid tribute to the resolve of his students: “This year has been like no other in my lifetime and NGHS students have, once again, proven their determination to succeed in spite of real adversity.  They have also made significant contributions to our NGHS family during their time at the school. I must congratulate them not only on their results, but also their fight for the grades they truly deserve.” Students from NGHS joined the national campaign against the use of calculated grades, with some recently appearing on local and national TV and Radio news bulletins.

Year 13 students at the Wellington Road school will now commence undergraduate studies at a variety of universities across the country with courses as diverse as Aerospace Engineering to Animation and Plant Science to Physics and Philosophy.

The staff and governors of NGHS send their very best wishes to all our Year 13s and remember them as a most able, hard-working and friendly cohort of students whose considerable abilities have yielded outstanding examination results in 2020. We hope that they will keep in touch with us and we look forward to seeing them for a reunion event when daily life restrictions are eased.
