Home-School Partnership

At NGHS, we believe that students are best supported to thrive when home and school work together. We value open communication with parents/carers and the shared role we play in supporting students’ learning, wellbeing and personal development.

Parents/carers can support this partnership by:

• Taking an interest in homework, checking the NGHS Planner and helping students establish a manageable routine and a suitable space to study

• Supporting regular, punctual attendance and reporting absences promptly, including the reason for absence

• Ensuring students attend school appropriately dressed and equipped, in line with our uniform requirements

• Contacting the appropriate Head of Year if their child is experiencing difficulties at home or in school, or if circumstances change that may affect their wellbeing or learning

• Encouraging participation in extra-curricular activities and the wider life of the school

• Celebrating effort, progress and achievement, and discussing any behaviour concerns or sanctions calmly and constructively

• Attending relevant information evenings and the annual parents’ evening

• Reading school communications and discussing their child’s annual report together, recognising strengths and identifying areas for development.

Supporting with pastoral issues at home

We recognise that families may experience difficulties and that these can affect a student’s wellbeing and school life. Parents/carers are encouraged to contact their child’s Head of Year so that we can discuss their concerns and work together to identify appropriate support.

We also provide information and links to support services for parents/carers.
