Year 10 Student Makes GB Cycling Squad!

17 November 2025

NGHS pupil Fay J is now Newport Cycling Club’s coaching programme’s most successful rider ever! ????????????
Year 10 Student Fay is a track sprinter, who rides the same events that Victoria Pendleton excelled in!
This year Fay won the British National Sprint Futures Series and took Silver in the National Youth Sprint Championship. Fay’s success has now led to her being one of only 2 female sprinters awarded NSR (National School of Racing) status, which is effectively the GB squad. Fay was presented with her GB jersey 3 weeks ago at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
Incredibly, Fay still has another year in the Youth A (U16) age group, so we expect lots of success in 2026. As a result of her GB selection, Fay will now be coached and mentored by a British Cycling specialist Sprint Coach, and she will be required to race and train at the UK’s 5 indoor velodromes In Glasgow, London, South Wales, Derby and Manchester practically every week.
Being part of the National Squad will bring some challenges. As you can imagine, the hotel and travel costs associated with this are eye-watering and Newport Cycling Club is actively pursuing grant funding sources so that we can support Fay in order for her to reach her full potential.
