Economics

The Economics and Business department at NGHS is small but dynamic aiming to inspire, motivate and maximise the achievement of all our students. In the words of Peter Jones from Dragons Den:

“If you are going to dream, then dream big, reaching one horizon always reveals another”.

“An inner self believe is like a foundation stone under the tallest building. There is no such thing as failure, only feedback”.

The Department blends together Business, Economics and Enterprise with engaging and inspirational teaching methods which give our students a firm foundation for their future life and work challenges. “The best of both” is our vision as the academic rigour of Economics and the dynamism of Business Studies are offered to students as one integrated A level course.

The Young Enterprise Company scheme is offered as an extra-curricular activity which helps to provide an opportunity for students to experience the real world of business first-hand. This unique experience is certainly one which students do not usually forget.

Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading enterprise and financial education charity reaching over 250,000 young people every year. Their motto is “We make the connection between school and the world of work, enabling young people to develop the knowledge and attitudes they need to succeed, building on eight key skills: Communication, Confidence, Financial Capability, Initiative, Organisation, Problem-solving, Teamwork and Resilience. Students have the privilege of working with a dedicated business advisor from Industry so gaining expert support throughout the process.

Our Young entrepreneurs are ambassadors for our school showing much professionalism and success. Last year we were fortunate to be represented by two excellent teams who both reached the Shropshire final and won awards. In 2017, our Young enterprise groups won overall for Shropshire and each year at least 2-3 award categories are won by NGHS teams.
