A very warm welcome to Newport Girls’ High School! We are delighted that you will be joining our vibrant school community. This is an exciting time as you prepare to take your next steps into secondary education, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
Our Transition Zone has been specially designed to help you feel informed, confident, and excited about starting at NGHS. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about life at our school—from what to expect on your first day to insights into our values, curriculum, and the many opportunities that await you.
We are very much looking forward to meeting you in person during our Induction Days on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 July. These days are a fantastic opportunity to explore the school, meet your new classmates and teachers, and begin to feel at home in your new environment.

From the Head of Year 7, Mrs Martin
I am so excited to meet you all and to welcome you to our NGHS family. I am thrilled to be your Head of Year. This is the beginning of a very exciting journey for you, filled with new friendships, knowledge and unforgettable experiences. It is my goal to ensure that you settle in and have an enjoyable transition into secondary school.
You will see my in school every day, in the mornings during tutor time, assemblies and some of you will even have PE lessons with me. You will always see me out and about at break and lunchtimes and if you can't find me inside you will definitely find me outside on the sports fields or courts! Please come and have a chat, tell me all about your day and ask any questions that you may have.
Remember, it is ok to feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness – every student here has been in your shoes and they, along with our amazing teachers and pastoral staff will be here to help and support you. Get ready for a fantastic year ahead!
