What cookies are
Cookies are small files that a website stores on your computer, phone or tablet. Nearly all websites use them. Some are needed to make the site work at all. Others are used to count visits, or to show content provided by another organisation, such as a map or a video.
Simply browsing this site sets no cookies
If you are reading our pages, we do not store anything on your device and we do not ask you to accept any cookies. Cookies are only used when you actively do something, such as fill in a form or log in.
How we measure visits
We want to know which pages are useful so that we can improve the site. We use Fathom Analytics to do this.
Fathom does not use cookies and does not store anything on your device. It does not collect your name, address or any other personal details, it does not build a profile of you, and it cannot follow you to other websites. We do not sell or share the information, and it is not used for advertising.
Cookies we set when you use the site
These are all necessary for the website to work, so we do not ask for your permission to use them.

Most visitors never log in, and will only ever see the PHPSESSID cookie.
Content from other organisations
A few of our pages include content supplied by another organisation, for example a map, a document viewer or a careers tool. That content is loaded directly from the other organisation's servers, which means they can see your IP address and may set their own cookies. We do not control those cookies and we cannot see them. Each of those organisations publishes its own privacy policy.
How to control cookies
You can block or delete cookies using your browser settings. Every browser is slightly different, but all of them let you refuse cookies, delete the ones already stored, and be warned before a new one is set.
If you block the cookies we set, parts of this site will stop working properly. Forms in particular may fail to submit.
