Computer Science

The computer science department aims are to enable pupils to acquire the ICT skills and computing knowledge and understanding that can also be transferred to support them in other areas of the curriculum.

We believe that computing has a vital role in enhancing the learning process at all levels and across a broad range of activities. In KS3, our focus is on developing an understanding of computational thinking and problem solving skills. Students have one lesson a week in Year 7 and Year 8. In KS4 (which begins in Year 9), students continue with/opt to continue with this subject and the AQA examination board is followed which includes how algorithms help create computer codes and the importance of cyber security and the ethical impacts of digital technology.

Students are supported through lunchtime drop-in sessions and there is a Coding Club which meets weekly with considerable success in regional and national competitions.
