NGHS actively promotes student leadership and our Head Girl and Prefect Teams are examples of this.
Our Head Girl Team is working hard to promote the school and support its aims.
Here is an introduction to our team.
Since the age of 11, I have had the privilege of being a member of the NGHS family and I have chosen to continue studying my A levels here. The opportunities and support offered by NGHS have helped me meet some of my closest friends and created some of the best memories of my life. One of my duties, along with my team, is ensuring that fellow students have the same wonderful experiences that we’ve had, helping girls to settle into our community seamlessly and offer as much support and guidance as we can.
Deputy Head Girl (Community)
I have been at Newport Girls’ since year 7 and I am studying German, Economics and Psychology at A-level. My role as Deputy Head Girl with responsibility of Community and Careers allows me to work closely with members of the school and the local community in order to help the school to continue growing and develop opportunities offered to students to support their choices after sixth form. This year the school will begin its new expansion and through my role I hope to support the school by developing further links with local primary and secondary schools to assist with the school’s growth and provide wider opportunities to local students. I am really looking forward to being a part of the head girl team this year and working with the other members of the team to make a difference in this already amazing school.
Deputy Head Girl (Transition)
I joined Newport Girls Sixth Form last year, to study English, History and Psychology at A level. I think that our school has a great support structure in place to help students with their progression into Sixth Form life. As part of my role on the Head Girl Team, with the responsibility of integration, I hope to use my own experience to help make this transition even smoother for our y12s. NGHS has a great school community and I am looking forward to working with the rest of the team to continue to build upon this welcoming school environment and hope to ensure everyone gains all they can from their time here in Sixth Form.
Deputy Head Girl (Wellbeing)
I have been a student at NGHS since year 7 and I am studying Maths, History, German and Further Maths at A-Level. My role as Deputy Head Girl has a particular focus on the health and wellbeing of the students. I will be working closely with the wellbeing officers in order to improve the already high standards of emotional support available at NGHS. Chairing the Health and Wellbeing Committee as well as supporting the PSHE and PE programmes are some of my other responsibilities. I am delighted to be part of this year’s Head Girl Team and we hope to make a positive impact on our school and the wider community through our work.
Deputy Head Girl (Academic Chair)
I have been a student at NGHS since year 7 and I am currently studying French, maths and biology at A-level. As Deputy Head Girl with the roles of Academic Chair and Sixth Form Council, I will be organising the mentoring scheme within school this year, which allows pupils from different year groups to support each other with their schoolwork. If anyone would like to be a mentor or be mentored themselves, feel free to approach me or send me a message via my school email. I would also welcome any ideas from year 12 and 13 students regarding topics to discuss at Sixth Form Council, which I am lucky enough to be chairing this year. Overall, I am looking forward to working with the rest of the Head Girl Team to give back to our amazing school community.
