Newport Girls' High School

Reunion

Leavers' Destinations

The vast majority of students leaving in Year 13 gain places at their first choice University including Oxbridge and Russell group Universities. In 2022 four of our students went on to further their studies at Oxbridge (2 at Oxford and 2 at Cambridge) studying a range of subjects including architecture, medicine, English Literature and Human, Social & Political Science. Our students chose a wide variety of courses with Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering and Midwifery being ever popular choices. A significant proportion of students also go on to continue to study their A level subjects in more depth such as History, Geography, Psychology and English whilst the remainder opt for a complete variety of other vocational or academic courses. Bespoke advice and guidance is offered at every opportunity by experienced colleagues, governors and visiting mock interviewers.

We have experience supporting students who wish to apply outside of the UK too with the USA, Canada and European Universities being the most common choices. International applications vary enormously, therefore it is crucial that accurate support is given on an individual basis.

A small, but increasing, number of students are successfully applying for challenging and competitive apprenticeships with high profile companies. Our CEW, Enrichment programme and company links all assist students in developing the necessary skills to be successful.

Having left school, we always welcome students back to NGHS for our Reunion events (held usually just before Christmas each year). Here students are able to share the excitement of their first term away from NGHS6 and talk about the adventures they are having. Students from the past are always willing to support current sixth form students with their applications, often contacting them via email or leading seminar sessions where they share their experiences and pass on their advice.
