Reporting Student Absence

Planned absence:

  • Students should request a Leave of Absence form from the school office.  This should be completed and returned at least a week prior to the date of the requested absence.
  • Completed forms will be passed to the Headteacher to authorise.
  • Authorised forms will be returned to students via their register.
  • Where the Leave of Absence is not authorised, a letter will be sent home explaining the reason why.
  • Medical/dental appointments do not require a completed Leave of Absence form, however, a note or email should be sent in advising us of the appointment prior to the absence.
  • For Leave of Absence form please click here
  • Unauthorised leave in term time information click here

Unplanned absence:

  • Parents should notify the school as soon as possible, and by 9:30am at the latest, of any unplanned absences e.g. illness, either by telephone: 01952 797550 or by sending an email. Please note that only emails from addresses registered with the school will be accepted, due to safeguarding reasons.
  • Where an absence is unexpectedly extended e.g. delayed flight or continued illness, parents should contact the school, as soon as possible, on each continued day of absence.

Welcome to the NGHS PTA Committee page

We are an enthusiastic and friendly committee comprising of both parents and school staff. We aim to raise much needed funds for additional equipment and resources for students of the school and do this through organising a variety of fundraising and social events. Money raised from our recent efforts has been used to help purchase a minibus, piano, laptops, cameras, sewing machines, science equipment, staging for the new sports hall, equipment for the fencing club and more recently a PA system for use at school performances and events, plus we are also funding providing additional equipment for the new sixth form centre. If you are interested in meeting other parents and would like to find out more about our work, please contact a member of the PTA Committee at

As a new initiative for this year we have created nominated PTA representatives for each year group.  If you have any PTA-related questions or suggestions please feel free to contact your Year Rep at If there is a Year 11 parent who would like to volunteer we would be delighted to hear from you!

How can you help?

There are lots of ways you can support the NGHS PTA. Here are just a few:

Join the NGHS PTA Committee
We are always looking for new ideas about how we can raise funds for the school. We meet every other month to discuss current plans and new ideas. If you think you might be interested in joining, please feel free to come along to a meeting – new members are all very welcome. The meetings are held in the school library at 7.00pm and next meeting is Wednesday 10th February 2016.

For more information on our successful academic year  2014/2015 and plans for the coming year please click here

Join our 100 Club

Our 100 Club is a monthly draw that provides cash prizes for three lucky winners. However, more importantly, the draw raises funds for school equipment. Anyone wishing to support the school is welcome to become a member for just £2 a month. To join the Club please download an Entry Form using the icon below or for more information please email

Help at school events
The PTA provides refreshments for many of the school’s events. Help is always needed so even if you are only available for the odd event, your support will be very much appreciated. Sometimes we request donations such as cakes (cupcakes, brownies, flapjacks etc.) and raffle prizes. These can be home baked or shop bought so, if you are unable to help at an event but you would like to support us in another way, keep a look out for our email requests!

Support our fundraising events
Each year we organise a number of PTA events to help raise funds for the school. Volunteers are always needed to help with the organising and planning both before and on the night. And the best way of showing your support is to buy a ticket and come along as a guest with friends and family. Our annual Summer Ball is a fantastic evening and we are very grateful to everyone who shows their support by attending. Our ‘Future Events’ section contains more details about upcoming events.
