2017 Record Breakers

24 August 2017

Year 11 students have achieved an incredible new school record. 86.4% of GCSE results were A* and A grades or the new 9-7 grades in English and maths. This is a 3.7% improvement on the previous best achieved in 2015. Seven out of 56 students achieved all A*s or 9/8 grades and 50% of the year group achieved A* and A/9-7 in every subject they studied.

The new and more challenging English and mathematics qualifications have enabled the students to show their ability by performing above the A grade standard. In English 69.6% achieved levels 8 and 9 whilst in mathematics the standard was even higher at 71.4%. In fact in mathematics 98.2% of students achieved the top levels 7-9 and 19 of these students obtained an A, A* or A˄ (distinction) in Additional Mathematics.

In addition to the 100% pass rate all students who took the EBacc subjects were successful meaning 91% of the cohort achieved the breadth of academic results measured in the League Tables. There was great consistency across all subjects to bring about this fantastic performance for both the students and the school. The quality of teaching and support the students get is second to none and this continues at A Level.

We also welcome the external applicants who have received their GCSE results from their respective schools. Our induction will include study skills which will be invaluable as the students begin working on their A Level subjects.

Congratulations to students and staff on this record breaking achievement!
